about

In 2017 Calder Valley Poetry published Tales from the Tachograph, a road trip of poetry by Gaia Holmes and Winston Plowes. The book tour that followed featured not only words but two specially commissioned musical commentaries performed live by Jumble Hole Clough. For the first time selected poems read by the authors appear alongside the music on this album.

Jumble Hole Clough is a project by Colin Robinson to produce music influenced by the landscape, industrial remains and experiences around Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Forgotten things half-hidden beneath the undergrowth. Solo ambient guitar improvisations, creaky 1960s radiophonics, post-rock film music.

Beautifully crafted poems inspired by travelling on Britain's motorways.
- Margaret Calvert

From the lore and lexis of motorway travel, a subtext emerges - by turns surreal, sensuous, apocalyptic and transcendent. Service stations, Travelodge bedrooms and Shropshire B-roads acquire significant new auras in the hands of this hyper-talented duo. As a metaphor for twenty-first century transience, these poems speak not only to each other but to us all.
- Julia Deakin
